Situated tool

Concept of Situated tool
  • The situated tool by means of virtual reality extension systems, the computer can create 3-D images on display to give the user the feeling that is situated in a virtual environment.
  • Situated tools help to situate leaners in an environment to experience the context and happenings.
  •  A flight simulation program is an example is situating tool which places the user in a simulated flying environment.
Examples:
  • Simulations (flight, farming, surgery, environment, driving, historicity, Simcity, Play station)
  • virtual reality (VR)
The importance of situating tools:
  1. situates user in the environment
  1. comprehend and manipulate variables
  1. communication with other users log in
  1. foster creativity and visualization skills

Integration into teaching and learningWhen a certain real-life experience is impossible or difficult to attain
Class Activity Instruction:
  • Open 2D graphing calculator
  • Type the equation y=2x+1 in the equation pane
  • keep y-intercept (1) constant, change the coefficient of x using both positive and negative numbers
  • write down what did you notice?
we notice that the slope get changes as given below:

Fig 1: y= 2x+1 increases the slopes.                                                                                                                  Fig 2: y=4x+ 1

Fig 3: y=2x -1 increase the slopes

Situating Tool: Learning TaskDesign one Mathematics lesson using Geogebra along with procedure step involved.
  • Computer skills - Concept
  • Process skills - Instructional steps
  • Product - Output
Concept Right triangle:The right-angled triangle is a triangle in which one of the interior angles is ninety degrees.Procedural steps:1. Draw a point “A and B”.
2. Draw a line segment connecting between point “A” and “B”

3. Construct a circle where “AB” is the radius.
4. Now draw point “C” on the circumference of a circle.5.Draw a line segment connecting point “A” and “C”6. Draw point “D” on the circumference of the circle7. Draw a line segment connecting point “C” and “D”8. Draw a line segment connecting point “D” and “B”
